To put it simply, they preserve, protect and enhance any items inside them as well as your living/work space. It is thought they have been in homes since the Egyptian period when a tomb was discovered housing a frame protecting a portrait of a fayum mummy.
More often than not, we recommend customers try to match the style of moulding with the item going inside it and also the interior in which the frame will be. So, if you have a modern flat and were framing a minimalist piece of art we would recommend a contemporary aluminium frame to compliment the environment best. The same applies for traditional and everything in-between. Fortunately, our frame studio helps you make this decision, with our wall colour and image upload features; you can see how your frame will look in its future surroundings.
All of our picture frames share a few core components. These include the frame its self, glazing (glass or acrylic), MDF backing board, polycord and hanging fixings.
We also allow you to further customise your frame with the addition of a mount(s) and other backing board materials designed to carry out different jobs depending on the item inside.
Barrier board will protect and preserve the item inside, shielding it away from the elements. A self adhesive board will allow you to stick the item firmly in place. Useful for multi aperture mounts.
Before you buy, you have to know the size of your picture, so take a look at our measuring guide.
