Wood Picture Frames and Styles

Always have a common element running through your collection so there is a relationship between the pictures. It could be that they all have the same frame, or if it is a mixture of frames, they might all be the same size. Perhaps they are all black and white photographs or watercolour paintings by the same artist. This way you are creating a collection rather than a general assortment.

  • Drying the wood either naturally or in kilnsv
  • Shaping in to the desired profile
  • Sanding & finishing

Finishing refers to the various treatments performed on wood to give it the desired appearance.

  • Finishes that use the natural grain of the wood, such a stains
  • Finishes that cover the grain such as paint
  • Finishes that give the wood a metallic look, as with Gold leaf or foil

Softwood moulding comes from conifer trees (cone-bearing), which usually have a needle-like evergreen leaf. Hardwood comes from broad-leafed trees, most of which are deciduous.
